NPA GET TOGETHER 20TH MARCH 2019
The event had the presence of 40 dignitaries. The NPA members alongwith Sr. Bureaucrats, Consulates and the EC members of each society participated in the event.
ON THE DIAS WERE: Mr. Shailesh Haribhakti, Chief Guest; Mrs. Harshita Narwekar, Corporator; Mr. Kiran Dighavkar, Asst. Commissioner-BMC; Dr. Earnest John, Chairman; Mr. M. B. Vakharia, Chairman Emeritus; Mr. Hardeggar Othmar, Switzerland Consulate General.
The event began with the welcome address by Dr. Earnest John to all the Chief Guest, Sr. Bureaucrats, Consulates and the Dignataries present.
Mr. Shailesh Haribhakti, Chief Guest:
Mr. Shailesh shared his brief experience in Nariman Point that commenced more than 25 years ago. He recollects, ‘It was very aspirational to walk in Nariman Point – a Primest of prime location. But, over the time the focus of Mumbai shifted from Nariman Point to BKC.’
He stressed on three vital issues of the area.
- Use of Plastic
- Hawkers issue
- Footpath adoption
He concluded by saying ‘Apna Time Aayega’ (Our Time will come).
Mr. Kiran Dighavkar, Asst. Municipal Commissioner ‘A’ ward:
Mr. Kiran praised the polite approach of Nariman Point Association for their various issues and said this area also sources huge tax collection.
While he infused the idea of Pedestrianisation and encouraged the members to adopt footpath, so as to be involved in beautification and maintenance of footpath.
Ms. Harshita Narwekar, Corporator:
Ms. Harshita too appreciated the meticulous approach of Nariman Point Association in expressing their issues and said, “If you compare it with other Association, this is the only Association that is polite in its approach.” She encouraged the idea of Pedestrianisation & Footpath adoption and also expressed her support in funding the project.
She mentioned about a recent interaction with Nirmal bldg, who have shown interest in adopting the footpath and also have put request for re-designing the footpath and beautifying it along with their ongoing building renovation.
She concluded her speech by saying ‘Nariman Point Uska Time Aagaya Hai’ (The time of Nariman Point is already come) as the Metro project is underway, Buildings show interest in footpath adoption, Buildings participation in cleanliness drive, etc.
Mr. Hardegger Othmar, Consulate General of Switzerland: Mr. Othmar thanked for the invitation and said, being here for the past 7-8 month, I realised, it’s a wise decision that we didn’t shift from Nariman Point. It is still the top address and central point of connectivity.
Mr. Vakharia, Chairman Emeritus: Mr. Vakharia said, ‘It is Nariman Point Association which started adopting Footpath and that why we find the results, the footpaths are good. It is as a result of the people who started and it is still maintained. He appreciated Dr. John and Mrs. Kunti Oza for their motivation and dynamism.
Mr. Parag Udani, NPA EC Member: Mr. Udani spoke about 3 issues and requested Govt’s support in resolving the same. 1. Dual role of MMRDA and BMC for the area 2. Premium for conversion of Leasehold to Freehold land 3. Co.op Bank charging Tax on FD.
Vote of Thanks: The event dispersed with the Vote of thanks by Dr. John. He thanked Mr. Shailesh Haribhakti, Mr. Kiran Dighavkar, Asst. Commissioner – BMC; Ms. Harshita Narweker, Corporator, Mr. Hardeggar Othmar, Switzerland Consulate General; Mrs. Kunti Oza for organizing the event, Mr. Vinod Dalmia for hosting the event on the terrace.
Mr. R. R. Gupta, Hon. Secretary handed over the gift hampers to the dignataries present on the Dias.
